Optics Project – Newtonian Telescope on Dobsonian Mount

Physics project for class 12 is an essential component of the all board assessments. This project can also be a part of your portfolio while applying for higher education in universities in India as well as abroad.
We can guide you in completing a fantastic “Optics Project“. Learn to make a complete, fully working and good quality optical telescope of Newtonian design. This project can be completed in 8 working sessions. You can spread out and schedule sessions at your convenience. While working on the project you will be documenting it completely, entire log of the process, shooting photographs (as well as videos) to incorporate in your project report. At the end of 8 sessions you will have a working telescope, as well as a complete project report. A project completion certificate as well as letter of recommendation will be provided to all students successfully completing the project.
Project Aim: To build a Newtonian Telescope of 6-inch, 8-inch or a 10-inch size, mounted on a Dobsonian Mount. The telescope will be complete in all respects and can be used for night sky observations, planets, stars, double stars and deep sky objects.
What will you learn?
- Functions of an astronomical telescope – Light Grasp, Resolution & Magnification.
- How to make a parabolic mirror to be used in a telescope. This will include an overview of the initial grinding, fine grinding, polishing and final parabolising of the primary mirror.
- Calculating the dimensions of the telescope optical tube, calculating the size of the secondary mirror, mirror cell, secondary mirror support, focuser.
- Workings of the Dobsonian Mount. It is the simplest but a very versatile mount for telescopes.
- Assembly of all parts of the telescope, viz. Optical, Mechanical, Mount for usage.
- Accurate collimation of the telescope.
- Learn to locate planets, stars and deep sky objects in the night sky.
- First light ceremony of the telescope.
Location of Workshop: The sessions will be conducted at our workshop at Manesar. Our facility has all the materials and tools required for completing the project as well as a friendly staff.
Number of sessions: It requires 8 working days to complete the project. You have the freedom to schedule your own dates within a period of three months or less. In case you are not able to attend all sessions due to other school commitments, the project will still be completed. You may schedule your sessions your vacations in summer or winter.
Result of the project: A fully working, high quality telescope with which you can observe the night sky.
Project report: We will guide you in making a detailed and worthwhile project report. This project report can be used in your 12th class as well as it can be a part of your portfolio while applying for higher education at the universities in India or abroad.
Project Completion Certificate: A project completion certificate as well as letter of recommendation will be provided to all students successfully completing the project.
